Dental Implants

Dental implants are sterile screws placed in jaw bones to replace missing teeth or anchor prostheses (dentures).  Since Dr. Brånemark introduced screw-type implants in the mid-1960s, numerous advancements have occurred.

There are many options:

  1. extractions of teeth alone
  2. extractions of teeth + immediate bone graft,
  3. extractions of teeth + immediate implant placement + bone graft
  4. extractions of teeth + immediate implant placement + bone graft + temporization

Molar teeth extraction and implant placement have many options.   Certain specific circumstances may limit some options.

  1. extraction of molar teeth + bone graft – Await 3 months of healing period, then place an implant.
  2. extraction of molar teeth – Await 4-6 weeks, then place implants + bone graft
  3. extraction of molar teeth + place implants + bone graft to shorten treatment time.

There are two different cases of Sinus Bone Grafts:

  1. vertical, closed technique using osteotomes, osteodensification (Versah) burs, or other techniques
  2. lateral, open technique which can be done as a separate procedure or in conjunction with implants placements.

For thin ridge,

  1. Subperiosteal tunneling technique
  2. Osteodensification using Versah burs
  3. Osteotome technique
  4. Split ridge technique
  5. Membrane-assisted bone grafting technique

Dr. Lee selects various implant brands and types based on specific requirements.

  1. For small diameter implants (3.3 mm)
  2. For immediate and/or early crown placements
  3. For soft, spongy type of bone or immediate molar replacement

Smokers, patients with osteoporosis, or patients on bisphosphonates for osteoporosis require different approaches.  For example, typical bone graft procedures do not work for smokers.  Dr. Lee has been treating these difficult cases for long time.

We are aware that people have different priorities, cost, treatment period, temporary esthetics, implant longevity, etc.

We specialize in delivering different options for each patient.
