Instructions for General Anesthesia/ IV Light, Moderate or Deep Sedation
Do not eat or drink for at least six (6) hours prior to the appointment.
You may drink water (not milk, OJ, coffee) for up to 2 hours to prevent dehydration.
Take all medications for high blood pressure, etc. Antibiotics and painkillers are allowed with sips of water.
Do not take insulin or other diabetic medications (e.g., metformin) on the day of surgery. Take diabetic medications after eating.
Blood thinners (anticoagulants) such as coumadin (warfarin), clopidogrel (Plavix), rivaroxaban (Xarelto), apixaban (Eliquis) must be discontinued 4 days before surgery.
Do not drive a car or operate machinery for 24 hours.
Come with a responsible adult who can stay throughout the procedure and take you home.
Do not apply nail polish for one finger.
Wear loose clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up past the elbow.
Do not wear contact lenses, lipstick, or excessive makeup on the day of surgery.
If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or upset bowels, please notify the staff.
